Gender-bending Taylor Mac is taking a sweeping survey of pop music


There are ambitious shows and then there’s Taylor Mac’s “A 24-Decade History of Popular Music,” which originally ran for 24 hours and covered pop songs from 1776 to the current day.
We’re talking battle marches from the Revolutionary War, minstrel-show tunes, murder ballads, Stephen Foster, Great Depression-era weepers, World War II rallying cries, disco thumpers and even, what the hey, Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir.” Whew.
