Scotland’s Outer Hebrides islands — also known as the Western Isles — are famous for the Harris tweed woven on the island of the same name, gorgeous beaches, prehistoric standing stones, coastal crofting villages where time seems to have stopped and for the Gaelic music that seems to seep up from the rocky, windswept landscape. Singer Julie Fowlis, who grew up on the island of North Uist, is steeped in that musical tradition and has tuned her pure and lovely voice to its cadences and melodies.
